The news has been our orginal source of information, that we view each day to become aware of the world around us. We rely on the news to know what is going on in the world. But have you ever wondered whats true and whats not? or even thought about if they are telling to the truth or maybe what they are saying is true but with a few twists? Well they do change alot of the things on the news and switch things up making people believe what they are saying. For example, in class we discussed and watched the news about the boston bombing where the news reporter said they had captured the two guys who let the bombs go off, but in fact it was not the two guys, it was just two innocent boys. For a couple days the boys couldn't leave the house because they were scared someone would kill them because of how they were being blamed for something they never did.

Learned
This Pop Culture class has taught me what exactly popular culture is. I learned that it is ethical, literary, and philosophical and religious things that are used to understand our contemporary world. I really enjoyed having a teacher who is very acknowledgable about the topic and has interest in it making me very focused. The readings were very helpful and discussing it in class helped alot too. I really enjoyed this course and it has provided me with lots of knowledge of the world around us!

The Fast and the Furious
In class we dicussed and made a list of movies that are related in some way to our generation. I choose the movie, "The Fast and the Furious", because we are into cars and how they look. We want a good looking car and of course one that is fast. Also in the movie they show house parties and drinking, which definetly is a part of our generation. They also listen to music throughout the movie especailly rap and hip hop. Its been a movie that has had many made after the first because people are so into them because they can relate to the movie.

Reality TV
In class we read an article over reality TV, we talked alot about The Real World which is a particular reality show that has been around for years. The first question we addressed was, "What is Reality TV?", it presents unscripted dramatic or humorous situations, and that there mostly ordinary people rather that professional actors who actually get paid more than people who are'nt.The Real World modifies and is highly influenced, usually in exotic locations and abnormal situations. There are three things that appeal to people most; connection, fantasy, drama. We also learned how repetitive The Real World is. Its pretty predictable, we know theres going to be a group of strangers who get put into a house and have to live together with lots of alcohol and argue.

Hip-Hop
In the reading in class over hip-hop I found it very true about the ways people view the music. It has evolved over time into a medium misogyny, materilism and murder. For example, in the album produced by 50 cent called "The Massacre", it to me seemed like revenge or murder towards somebody. We talked in class about the top three most terms people use for hip-hop listeners like young, aggressive, which I can see why people have choose that because most people that listen to it are young and they think violence is related so they come up with the word aggressive to describe it. People also, feel a gang-related vibe and or drugs. The qoute from the reading on p.157 says, " The most poisonous one defines middle-class normalcy and achievement as 'white' while embracing violence, illiteracy and drug dealin as authentically 'black'. I think that is what alot of people would describe it as.

Billy Sim
In class when we went over the reading "Billy Sim", I found it to be very interesting because I could agree completely with Chuck's main points. Some of the great points he said, was about how there is no main objective goal in the game, you simply make a character nothing more nothing less. I think peeople feel its a way to escape reality by making a character that looks like them and lives how they do. Also, how buying all of the material objects makes people happy and even the characters in the game. Personally, I've played the sims when I was younger and when I read what Chuck had said in the reading, It is definetly true.

The Futile Pursuit of Happiness
Most significant ideas: When you predict exactly the way you feel in the future about something than your most likely going to be wrong. Also affective forecasting, when you over estimate the intensity of future events.
Why are these important? Well because people need to focus more on the emotional part of how they will feel rather than the financial effects. Also thats what human action is directed toward and it affects our well- being.
Examples: When I go shopping to buy clothes, I think that I'll be more happy and feel better about myself, but once I where the shirt or pair of jeans a couple times, I adapt to them and the pleasure of wearing that new shirt or pair of jeans is gone because you get use to them.
