Billy Sim

In class when we went over the reading "Billy Sim", I found it to be very interesting because I could agree completely with Chuck's main points. Some of the great points he said, was about how there is no main objective goal in the game, you simply make a character nothing more nothing less. I think peeople feel its a way to escape reality by making a character that looks like them and lives how they do. Also, how buying all of the material objects makes people happy and even the characters in the game. Personally, I've played the sims when I was younger and when I read what Chuck had said in the reading, It is definetly true.

  1. I definitely agree with Klosterman's points as well. As you said, you also played the Sims game when you were young. I did too and the interesting part is that I never realized what morals this game has (to escape reality and make yourself happy by purchasing material things) until we read about it in class. I'm not sure if you ever did it but I know that I would get the cheat codes for Sim money and would just keep typing in the code so I had thousands of dollars so I could renovate my mansion. Now that I'm older and don't play it, I see how this game allows players to act out a fantasy life of what we wish we could obtain. It's honestly a genius game and now I see why it was so popular (and continues to be).

  2. He did make some very good points and I do think there is such an underlying message in the game, that material objects are the only things that make the characters in the game happy. That sends a strong message to kids that play the game.It is saying that buying things is the only way they can be happy in life. To be honest I have never played Sims before and I'm kind of glad that I never got into it.
